On August 20th 2011, John Staiger of the Staiger/Hensley Racing Team drove the SPIRIT OF THE LAKES Modified Sports racer to a new Land Speed Record of 244.229MPH. The Modified Sports racer was prepared by the Staiger/Hensley Racing Team for the Fuel Modified Sports (FMS), engine class E (213c.i.). During its various runs, the SPIRIT OF THE LAKES achieved a top speed of 253MPH with a combined average two way speed of 244.229MPH. The team looks forward to returning for an all out assault on their record with plans to push it well north of 250MPH.
